As per current statistics, YouTube gets more than two billion views a day. A startup set up by three PayPal employees in 2005, YouTube was bought by Google in 2006 for $1.65 billion. Now it is strengthening itself to compete with television.

It is also reported that YouTube has signed up with MGM and CBS to upload films and TV serials with advertisement in the US. Previously, it launched an on-line film rental service in the US.
The YouTube brand is one of the of the fastest growing sites. Some of the videos that are hosted on the sites get millions of hits each day. The company does not charge users for using the site and they get their revenue from traditional sources like sponsorships, banner advertising, promotions, contextual advertising and partnerships. They partner with various media companies like Warner Music Group and NBC.
Google says it will continue to offer free content and monetize the traffic to generate advertising revenues. It is monetizing over 2 billion video views in the US every week and has more than 1,000 partners. Advertisers like Samsung say YouTube's 24/7 availability, specially to office goers is a big draw.

Model Rules of Social Media Marketing - News Item

To have an on-line presence is the crucial business “mantra” today. According to the Web Analysts, the best way to establish a strong foundation in the virtual world is through Social Media Marketing (SMM). Social Media, through its various networking services such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, blog posts, creates a unique platform to allow interaction between a brand and a consumer in a contemporary manner.
With the changing scenario of the marketing policy, today consumers are more conscious about the in-depth information of a business/brand before taking it up. The more unique interactive social platform a business creates, the more favorable it becomes whereby consumer queries, information, and updates can be discussed openly and directly. Social Media Marketing is one of the easiest ways to connect with the targeted audience.
Social media has been exploding in last several years and easily accessible to anyone with the Internet access. But to create an awareness among the targeted audience, it is also very important to know the model rules to strategically approach for favorable end-results.
  • Undergo Intensive Research: Organizations should make extensive research about the social sites, which are most visited by their consumers. Understand the activities that take center-stage in prospect sites and become aware of the strengths and weakness of each platform.
  • Proactive Presence: The key prerogative of social media is interaction. Without proactive interaction, the marketing efforts will be rendered pointless. With regular updates, interactive sessions, and even adjustments in page content from time to time, consumers become more aware and involved about a business/brand.
  • Focus on Holistic Growth: Social Media Marketing efforts must collate harmoniously with other marketing efforts. Every strategy must enhance the other in order to have a well-rounded impact.
  • Quality over Quantity: It is not just the number of activities, but the quality of activities that adds to good consumer response. The content/activities must entice interest, excitement and a need to pursue more in relation to the brand.

Future of Web with HTML 5

By the end of second quarter of this year, majority of visitors of your website are going to have a glance of 3D content without plugins in the browser.
The implementation of HTML 5, along with JavaScript and CSS3, can integrate a lot many new features and frameworks into web applications, websites and web designs. These applications can reshape the perceptions of what a web browser and web standards can achieve. HTML 5 includes the aspects such as Canvas, tagging, DOCTYPE, Web Forms, Calendar, CSS3, Geolocation, and a few topics like CSS3, WOFF and SVG.
Beginning with the release of WebGL 1.0 by the Khronos group, this year is going to see major milestones and supports in the web industry. Microsoft has launched IE9 on March 14 and includes hardware accelerated WebGL support. Google has also enabled WebGL in Chrome and Firefox 4 RC (soon to be released) has also enabled WebGL support by default.
Using HTML 5 can enable to view 3D content without plugins. HTML5 not only offers 3D effects or creating web applications, but also also offers great advancements to how content — including text — is displayed and how users can interact with that text.
According to a report, the developers at Children's hospital Boston created the Brain Surface and Tractography Viewer by using Using JavaScript, jQuery and WebGL. They said that, “The implications of this type of technology for aiding in medical research are stunning. The fact that this all takes place in the web browser means that a researcher or doctor could explore MRI results from another part of the hospital — or another part of the globe.”
Shwetank Dixit, Web Evangelist, Opera Software said, “Previous versions like HTML 4 (.01) were web pages, static documents, while HTML has standards to focus web application. It provides more readable codes, lesser plugins and pains.”
"With HTML5, the browser is able to do pretty much everything you can do now in a regular app environment. What we're seeing internally is a bunch of web applications jumping on very quickly," Google Chrome OS Director Caesar Sengupta says. "I think people haven't [realized] the power of HTML5, and how quickly things are going to adapt and evolve."

Google Circles: A New Social Media Service by Google

There are some ongoing rumors circulating around the industry about the launching a new Social Media Networking Site – Google Circles – by Google. It has been reported that Google Circles intends to help its users to share photos, videos, status message and a lot more within their social circle.
According to some rumors, if this social network works well, it is going to be a Facebook killer. It is still unclear whether this site concentrates on music, movies, or games.
Reported that Google Circles is expected to be launched at the SXSW, an Annual Music, Film and Interactive Conference and Festival held in Austin during this March. On the other hand, a Google representative denied the rumors saying that “no such service is launching at SXSW”.
Clayton Morris said on a recent Fox News that, “Even if Circles is not a real thing and just a labs project, Google’s eventual re-entry into the social circle is inevitable.” He also said that “Google wants to be more social and I have some theories about why they have never really succeeded.”
It is still in dilemma, if Google launches this site, this time it will reach up to the expectations or not. In fact, Google's first two attempts – Orkut and Google Buzz – either short-lived or made a minimal impact. However, let us wait and see how Google Circle (if it is really coming up) is going to perform against Facebook.

Talks on Web 3.0 and 10 rules for Entrepreneurs by Reid Hoffman

Recently, the Executive Chairman and Co-founder at LinkedIn, Reid Hoffman at the SXSW's Southwest Interactive Conference in Austine discussed on two different topics, Web 3.0 and Entrepreneurship. He declared his 10 important rules of entrepreneurship and also discussed on the role of Data in Web 3.0.
According to Mr. Hoffman, the concept of the three epochs of Web is:
  • Web 1.0 involves “go search, find some data”.
  • Web 2.0 involves “real identities” and “real relationships”
  • Web 3.0 will be “real identities generating massive amounts of data.”
His 10 rules of Entrepreneurship:
Rule #1: Seek To Create Disruptive Change. Replace $10 of revenue with $1. Example: Skype.
Rule #2: Aim big. It's the same amount of blood, sweat and tears to build a small company. So do something that affects an entire industry and change the World.
Rule #3: Build A Network to Amplify Your Company. Build your network at all levels – board, founders, partners, vendors, employees, customers.
Rule #4:Plan for Both Good and Bad Luck. Opportunity will cross your path and you'll have to pivot to reach it. Be ready to take advantage of the good and to keep the bad from putting you out of business.
Rule #5: Maintain Flexible Persistence.
Rule #6: Launch Early Enough To Be Embarrassed By Your Creation. Time is important, and you need to be the first to engage your intended market.
Rule #7: Aim High But Don't Drink Your Own Kool-Aid. Hoffman believes it’s important to know when your head’s in the stars. Stay paranoid so you can cope with the unexpected.
Rule #8: A Great Idea for a Product is Important. But a great idea for distribution is more important. (Amen to that!)
Rule #9: Pay Attention to Your Culture. Worry about getting hiring right from the very beginning.
Rule #1o: The aforementioned rules are not laws of nature; every venture is an experiment.
